Class Descriptions

Puppy Manners – Part 1

This program is for puppies between 10 and 19 weeks old at the start of class. Early training is critical to the development and socialization of your new puppy. This course is designed to help you and your puppy start off on the right paw. Included in this course:

  • socialization with other puppies and people
  • teaching good bite inhibition
  • housetraining basics
  • crate training
  • acclimating your puppy to being gently handled all over his/her body
  • teaching basic household manners
  • learning the fundamentals of obedience training including how dogs learn by association and by consequence and the basics of positive reinforcement training
  • helping you determine what motivates your puppy and how to use that effectively to train the behaviors you want

Your puppy will also learn behaviors such as sit, down, stay, come, watch, wait at doors, greet people nicely, leave forbidden items, and walk on a loose leash. Playtime with the other puppies is included each class. The goal is to have a well-socialized and well-mannered puppy at home and when out in public.

Puppy Manners – Part 2

This program is for puppies that have completed our Puppy Manners or similar course and know the basics such as sit, down, stay, and come. It is designed for puppies that are ready to work the basics in much harder situations. This course is for those wanting to:

  • continue socializing your puppy with other friendly puppies and humans
  • further strengthen your relationship and communication with your puppy
  • help your puppy gain fluency in the basic skills you learned in the Puppy Manners course and take these to the next level by incorporating them into more complex behaviors
  • take it on the road and practice all the behaviors in the real world and in every day life situations

Your puppy will learn behaviors such as sit and down with real life distractions; longer sit and down stays; “come” in the real world; go to their “place”; basic heeling; leaving things alone while out for a walk; proper etiquette for meeting and playing with dogs; beginning off leash work; some fun tricks; and will continue to work on good manners.

This program is for puppies that have taken our Puppy Manners course or the equivalent and that are less than 10 months old. Bring your puppy to the first class.


Basic Manners

This program is for dogs with little to no training or for those wanting to learn how to train their dog using positive reinforcement. This course is designed to:

  • teach your dog basic household manners
  • help you determine what motivates your dog and how to use that to quickly and effectively train the behaviors you want
  • teach problem solving for both you and your dog
  • build reliability around distractions such as other dogs, people, noises
  • manage common issues such as barking and jumping

Your dog will learn behaviors such as sit, down, stay, come, watch, wait at doors, greet people nicely, leave forbidden items, walk on a loose leash, and drop items when asked. The goal is to have a well-mannered dog at home and when out in public.

This program is for dogs 5 months of age and older.


Intermediate Manners

This 6-week program is for dogs that have completed our Basic Manners or similar course and know the basics such as sit, down, stay, and come. It is designed for dogs that are ready to kick it up a notch and work the basics in much harder situations. This course is for those wanting to:

  • further strengthen your relationship and communication with your dog
  • help your dog gain fluency in the basic skills you learned in the Basic Manners course and take these to the next level by incorporating them into more complex behaviors
  • take it on the road and practice all the behaviors in the real world and in every day life situations

Your dog will learn behaviors such as sit, down and stand from a distance and with real life distractions; long sit and down stays; “come” in the real world; basic heeling; leaving things alone while out for a walk; proper etiquette for meeting and playing with dogs; beginning off leash work; and some fun tricks.

This program is for dogs that have taken our Basic Manners course or the equivalent. Bring your dog to the first class.


Advanced Manners

This 6-week program is for dogs that have successfully completed our Intermediate Manners course or the equivalent. It is designed to teach you the skills to get your dog to respond in highly distracting outdoor areas and work on off leash skills for those wanting to enjoy dog friendly off leash parks, beaches, and other locales. This class is typically held in various off leash areas and may be at different locations each week to broaden the types of distractions that you and your dog will be exposed to. This program has a heavy focus on working around extreme distractions including: attention on the owner, recalls, leave it, impulse control and loose leash walking. You will be required to bring a 20 foot long line to class.

This program is for dogs that have taken an intermediate level course and requires approval of the instructor. Bring your dog to the first class.


Canine Good Citizen Prep Class

This 6-week program is for dogs that have taken our Basic Manners course or the equivalent and know the basics such as sit, down, stay, and come. Canine Good Citizen (CGC) is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. This class prepares dogs and their handlers to take the CGC test. This is a prep class only. The test is given separately.

This program is for dogs that have taken our Basic Manners course or the equivalent. Bring your dog to the first class.


Super Tricks

This program is for dogs that have taken a Basic Manners class and are ready to add some extra fun to their training. Super Tricks is a 4-week class that will teach your dog some fun and practical tricks to entertain your family and friends as well as increase your skills as a trainer. Included in this class are a variety of tricks such as: spin, bow, weave, sit pretty, roll over, play dead, shake, wave, high five, balance a cookie on the nose, targeting, weave, crawl, back up, etc. You will also learn some great games to play with your dog. Fun is required!

This program is for dogs that have taken our Basic Manners course or the equivalent. Bring your dog to the first class.


Advanced Tricks

This 4-week class is focused on more complex tricks such as stop, drop and roll; wrap yourself in a blanket and go to sleep; put your toys away; open/close a door or cabinet; ring a bell to go outside; choose the cup with the treat underneath; and other fun tricks you would like to teach your dogs.

This program is for dogs that have completed our Super Tricks class.  Bring your dog to the first class.


Urban Agility

urban-agility-hydrantTurn your boring walks into a supercharged Urban Agility course! In this 4-week class, you’ll learn how to use items you find on your walks as fun obstacles for your dog to climb on, go under, get in, jump over, balance on, etc. No special equipment needed! Just some basic skills and your imagination. You’ll learn how to safely teach your dog to navigate common items using the Urban Agility basics: in, on, paws up, balance, under, over, around, and much more!

This program is for dogs that have taken our Basic Manners course or the equivalent. Bring your dog to the first class.


Scent Games

Do you have a dog who loves to sniff? Now you can use your dog’s best asset – their NOSE – to keep them motivated, having fun, and using their brain in a good way! This class will teach you lots of fun ways to use scent to build confidence and give your dog great games to play in the house, yard or anywhere you go. Note that this is not a Nosework class or a class to help you compete in Nosework.

This 4-week class is for dogs that have taken our Basic Manners course or the equivalent. Bring your dog to the first class.


Loose Leash Walking

This 2-week class is for dogs that need to learn or brush up on their leash manners. You will learn many safe and dog friendly techniques to make walking your dog a pleasure instead of a chore. We will also discuss different tools, which would be best for your dog, and how to use them effectively.

This program is for dogs that have taken our Basic Manners course or the equivalent. Bring your dog to the first class.


Reliable Recall

Training your dog to come quickly and reliably is the most important behavior you will ever teach him. It can actually save his life one day. This 2-week class is the first step in teaching your dog to come every time you call him, no matter what distractions there are. You will learn how and when to use the word “come”, how to motivate your dog to come each and every time you call him, and how to build a reliable recall in the real world.

This program is for dogs that have taken our Basic Manners course or the equivalent. Bring your dog to the first class.


Rally Classes

Rally is a great new sport that is becoming very popular with people and dogs of all ages! It is a unique combination of obedience exercises performed on a course that both dogs and handlers love. Rally emphasizes teamwork, communication and fun for the dog/handler team while providing an interactive approach to obedience. The exercises involved in the course are fun and will help build your skills as a handler and increase your dog’s repertoire of behaviors. Praise, encouragement, and nonstop communication are permitted in this sport. These 6-week classes will teach you and your dog how to perform the Rally exercises and how to read and complete a variety of Rally courses. Whether you are interested in competing, or just want to try something new with your dog, this is the sport for you! Come join us and see what all the rage is about!

Intro to Rally

Introduces you to the sport of Rally and covers the 30 World Cynosport Rally (formerly APDT Rally) Level 1 signs and bonus exercises. You will also learn to work as a team with your dog, how to navigate a Rally course, and to develop attention around minor distractions.

Prerequisite: Completion of our Basic Manners or similar course and dogs should know the basics such as sit, down, stay, come and loose leash walking.

World Cynosport Rally Level 1

This class will focus on refining the skills introduced in the Intro to Rally class. You’ll learn new ways to enhance your teamwork with your dog, build better focus, and perfect the Level 1 exercises.

Prerequisite: Completion of Intro to Rally and instructor approval.

World Cynosport Rally Level 2

In this class you will learn the 18 World Cynosport Rally Level 2 signs and bonus exercises. Because Level 2 is off leash, there will be a strong emphasis in strengthening teamwork, focus, and work around distractions in order to develop solid off leash skills.

Prerequisite: Completion of World Cynosport Rally Level 1 and instructor approval.

World Cynosport Rally Level 3

In this class you will learn the 15 World Cynosport Rally Level 3 signs and bonus exercises.  You’ll continue to build off leash skills and also learn new exercises such as moving stands, signals, drop on recall, retrieve, and more challenging jumps.

Prerequisite: Completion of World Cynosport Rally Level 2 and instructor approval.

Rally Level 4

This is an eclectic class in which we work on a variety of new skills to keep the teams’ Rally training fresh and interesting including: exercises from other styles of Rally, games to prepare for competition obedience exercises, tricks, freestyle, etc.  Each class also includes a full size Rally course made up of World Cynosport Rally signs plus the new skills being trained.

Prerequisite: Completion of World Cynosport Rally Level 3 and instructor approval.

Rally Specialty Class – Focus Games

This 4-week class uses games to teach you how to get and keep focus around distractions and in a variety of situations. It also includes fun ways to teach “sticky heeling.” This class is open to all levels with prior Rally experience.

Prerequisite: Completion of Intro to Rally or other Rally class.

Rally Specialty Class – Rally Skills

This 4-week class works on the skills needed to perform the various Rally exercises at all levels (distance work, rear end awareness, attention w/distractions, building duration focus, sticky heeling, etc.). It also includes navigating short sequences of signs or mini-courses. This class is open to all levels with prior Rally experience.

Prerequisite: Completion of Intro to Rally or other Rally class.

AKC Rally Novice

Continues working on the Novice level Rally signs and exercises with an emphasis on furthering your teamwork, tightening your heeling, and building greater attention and focus. This class is for those interested in competing in Rally or those just wanting to have fun.

Prerequisite: Completion of Intro to Rally or knowledge of the Novice level signs.

AKC Rally Advanced/Excellent

This class is for those with a thorough understanding of the Rally Novice exercises who are ready to move on to the Advanced and Excellent level signs. Because Rally Advanced and Excellent are off leash, there will be a strong emphasis in strengthening teamwork, focus, and work around distractions in order to develop solid off leash skills.

Prerequisite: Completion of our Rally Novice class or thorough understanding of the Novice level signs. Teams also must be able to heel with attention for short periods and be able to work around minor distractions.
